Online courses or classroom-based education?
“Classroom-based education is better”. This is
an observation made by a teacher and then he or she goes on to explain that
this is because teaching is more effective when it happens at home.
When teachers
teach at a primary level, there is a big difference between the way the
students learn and the way they will learn. However, teaching at a secondary
level has very little difference between the way students learn and the way
they will learn.
Teachers also
use different methods of teaching and most of them are not good and they use
what is known as classroom-based education. In this kind of schooling, learning
takes place within the classroom.
The classroom is
the most common word used to describe a school or institute but it can be
defined as the area where learning is done and not outside the classroom.
These schools use different teaching techniques which makes them effective in
their own ways. The teaching of this type is supposed to involve the student as
well as the teacher for them to remember the lesson and understand
what it teaches.
Teaching at a
higher grade than in primary school is not as easy as teaching at a lower grade
level. Teaching children at a higher grade level requires a lot of time and
much hard work but it creates good opportunities for academic growth and
development (Ainscott, 2011). According to Ainscott (2011), there are several challenges of teaching students at various levels.
These
challenges include poor comprehension of concepts, poor learning techniques
used in classrooms, and poor knowledge about subjects taught in primary schools
(Ainscott, 2011). Lack of interest in learning is one of these challenges. Students
who are bored with the subject matter do not like to learn new things and hence
do not like participating in any learning activity. They, therefore, stay in the
classroom without being engaged.
In addition,
some people find it difficult to concentrate on the subject matter and so they
lose interest in learning. As a result of lack of motivation, there is an
increase in laziness in some people. Due to laziness, children leave the
classroom before completing the course and this results in failure to pass the grade
1 examination or failing the entire year (Ainscott, 2011).
Children are
usually lazy and therefore there is no need for teaching as they will pick up
what they know from other related books. Therefore, the teacher should encourage
learning by helping students make sure all the questions are answered or else
answerable and at least the concepts understood. Children will learn more when
teachers use active listening as it keeps them motivated through constant help
(Ainscott, 2011).
Most of the
studies have shown that children learn much more while studying at the primary
level. Most of them are interested in what they understand and they are willing
to learn more whenever they are given learning materials. This learning is also
enhanced through encouragement. Teachers may use praise which encourages
students to look forward to the next topics in discussions or when they are asked
questions.
Ainscott (2011) says that children who are bored or do not like to learn what they are learning are always encouraged not to engage in learning. When they are encouraged, they will not only learn more but will also understand more things. This helps them to develop both academically and behaviorally (Ainscott, 2011). The main reason why children learn more in
calls for
skills and skills that a person needs to master and this helps a person to
understand the concept better.
In conclusion,
the main reason why children learn more in schools is because of the
instructor’s efforts to instill discipline among the learners as well as the
parent’s efforts of ensuring that children are kept in line with the normal
schedule.
