Sukumar wrote and directed Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01, a 2021 Indian Telugu-language action drama film[5]. Allu Arjun, Fahadh Faasil (in his Telugu debut), and Rashmika Mandanna feature in the film, which is produced by Mythri Movie Makers in collaboration with Muttamsetty Media. Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari, Sunil, Rao Ramesh, Dhananjaya, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Ajay, and Ajay Ghosh play supporting parts. The first of two cinematic portions, the film chronicles the emergence of a coolie in the red sandalwood smuggling syndicate, a rare wood that grows exclusively in the Andhra Pradesh state's Seshachalam Hills.
Devi Sri Prasad created the film's score and soundtrack, while Miroslaw Kuba Brozek and Karthika Srinivas–Ruben handled cinematography and editing, respectively. The Rise was released in Telugu on December 17, 2021, as well as dubbed versions in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi. Plot
Pushpa Raj is a coolie who works to smuggle red sandalwood, a rare wood that grows exclusively in the Seshachalam Hills in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor region, in the 1990s. Pushpa hides and rescues the stock when DSP Govindappa raids them in the forest, earning the trust of his boss Konda Reddy. He quickly rises through the ranks with the use of creative methods for smuggling red sandalwood and eventually becomes Konda Reddy's partner.
Mangalam Srinu, the cruel dealer in charge of the red sandalwood syndicate, entrusts 200 tonnes of his stock to Konda Reddy. Pushpa is given the job since Konda's younger brother, Jolly Reddy, is judged incapable. Govindappa tries to raid them, but Pushpa saves them by throwing all the logs into the river. Pushpa overhears Srinu selling the wood for a far higher price than they get paid at a party. He suggests that Konda demand a fair portion, but Konda declines because going against Srinu looks perilous.
Pushpa meets Srivalli and falls in love with her right away. His half-brother Mohan rejects Pushpa's lineage because he was born out of wedlock on their engagement day, while his mother is hurt in the ensuing struggle. This enrages Pushpa, motivating him to achieve greater heights in life. He smuggles the wood to Chennai the next day and meets with Srinu, demanding 1 crore (US$130,000) per tonne as their share. When Srinu refuses, his men assault him, but Pushpa defeats them. He then travels to Chennai and negotiates a price for the wood of 1.5 crore (US$200,000) per tonne, which Konda and Pushpa agree to split evenly.
While holding her father hostage, Jolly blackmails Srivalli into spending the night with him. Pushpa, enraged, severely hits Jolly, temporarily crippling him. When Konda discovers that Pushpa is to blame for his brother's illness, he attempts to assassinate him, but Srinu's men ambush them. Pushpa manages to counterattack them in the midst of the chaos. Pushpa saves Konda's brother Jakka Reddy after Konda is slain. He also kidnaps and kills Srinu's brother-in-law Mogileesu. Pushpa and Srinu reach an agreement, and Bhumireddy Siddappa Naidu selects Pushpa to run their syndicate. Pushpa becomes a powerful person after six months. Srinu's wife Dakshayini slashes his throat, injuring him, because he is unable to avenge his brother-in-law.
Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, a vicious police officer, takes over as the district's SP while Pushpa is still in his prime. Pushpa gives him a 1 crore (US$130,000) bribe. Shekhawat, on the other hand, intimidates and mocks Pushpa for his pedigree and for not addressing him as "Sir." This insult enrages Pushpa, who clenches his fists. If Pushpa does not unfold his fingers, Shekhawat threatens to shoot his hand. Pushpa gives up and exits the station in a terrible condition. During Pushpa's wedding night,Pushpa and Shekhawat share a drink. Pushpa snatches Shekhawat's handgun and shoots himself in the hands, expressing his displeasure with how he was mocked during their first meeting. He forces Shekhawat to undress while he undresses himself. Pushpa claims that his status as a syndicate head has not changed, whilst Shekhawat claims that he is nothing without his police uniform, and that even his dog would not recognise him if he were nude. Pushpa departs for his wedding, while Shekhawat returns home partially clothed. His dog, as expected, barks at him. Shekhawat, enraged, kills the dog and sets fire to the bribe money offered by Pushpa.

Development
Sukumar recounted a storyline to Mahesh Babu, with whom he previously worked in 1: Nenokkadine, following the success of Rangasthalam (2018). (2014). [25] Babu, who enjoyed the storey, approved the project[25] and was expected to begin filming when Vamshi Paidipally's Maharshi was completed (2019). [25] Mythri Movie Makers, who previously teamed with Sukumar on Rangasthalam, formally revealed the project, provisionally named #SSMB26, in mid-April 2019, marking their second collaboration with Babu and Sukumar. [26] [a] The film was supposed to start shooting in January 2019, however Mahesh Babu dropped out of Sukumar's production in March, claiming creative issues.He also confirmed this on Twitter. [27] [28] Instead, the actor has signed his next project, Sarileru Neekevvaru, alongside Anil Ravipudi. [30] While Sukumar approached Allu Arjun for his next film, marking his first time working with the director in a decade since Arya 2 (2009),[31] Mythri Movie Makers, who had previously worked on Babu and Sukumar's movie, consented to produce the project as well. Pre-production
"The red sanders robbery in the Andhra highlands is a complicated nexus that unfolds in the course of the narrative through a coolie-turned-smuggler," Sukumar said of the plot. [34] Sukumar became interested in red sandalwood smuggling after reading about instances in Andhra Pradesh a few years ago. Sukumar performed his homework and decided to turn the concept into a web series. He later decided to turn it into a film. [35] Because the film is set in Rayalaseema and Nellore, and the plot revolves around red sander smuggling, he personally went site scouting across Nallamala Forest. [36]Because the majority of the film was shot in a rural setting, Allu Arjun was said to have mastered the Chittoor accent for the project,[37], and the producers engaged a Bollywood team to help him with his look. [37] The storey was set in the Seshachalam forest, which is located in Tirumala's hilly region. [36]Miroslaw Kuba Brozek, a Polish cinematographer who worked on Nani's Gangleader (2019), has been hired for the project. The film's editing is being handled by Karthika Srinivas, while the production design is being handled by Mounika and Ramakrishna, the art directors from Sukumar's last film Rangasthalam (2018).
